This article will look at determining the best stretch mark cream for pregnancy, and will review the top 5 organic products that claim to prevent stretch marks or to remove stretch marks after pregnancy.
When you are pregnant your belly will start to grow and expand, the rate of your expanding belly is completely individual to you. Some people may not even look pregnant, whereas others (like me) look months advanced from the outset. The rate of expansion can also be down to whether this is your first pregnancy or your second, third etc. In my first I ‘showed’ very early and looked very big from the outset. In my second I expanded even quicker! It was like my body had a muscle memory of pregnancy and just adopted it from the outset.
The key thing here is mindset. In my first pregnancy I struggled with my ever-changing and expanding body. I felt invaded and cried as I lost my pre-pregnancy pregnancy figure. I was obsessed by oiling and moisturising my bump, so that I could prevent stretch marks altogether. In my second pregnancy I was much more relaxed and excepting that my body would change and expand and actually quite enjoyed caring for my new bump and than my post-natal body.
What are stretch marks?
Stretch marks are a form of skin scarring and they have an off colour hue. They do diminish over time, however sometimes they do not diminish completely. They are formed when the body grows rapidly during pregnancy (or other times of weight gain). When you are pregnant, stretch marks usually form in the later trimester, they usually appear on the belly but can also appear on the thighs breasts, lower back, buttocks and hips. They can also be influenced by the changing hormones that occur during pregnancy.
Why should we try to prevent stretch marks?
This is a personal choice. Stretch marks in pregnancy are perfectly natural and occur in approximately 90% of all pregnant women. If you are perfectly happy with your body, stretch marks and all, than fantastic, I salute you, I personally felt if I could something to prevent them I would at least try, I do admit in my first pregnancy I was obsessed by trying to prevent pregnancy changing my body in any way. But than after an emergency C-section I resigned myself that I would be scared and stretched. However, I managed to diminish my scars and stretch marks significantly.
This review will therefore contain two of my favourite products I used during pregnancy and post-natal, that helped me pretty much prevent and remove my stretch marks. I will also use my extensive research to gain a balanced insight and overview of all the products reviewed in this article.
I do have to disclose that although the title states ‘The best stretch mark cream for pregnancy’, I have actually reviewed a variety of types of product including belly butter, mothers balm, stretch mark oil, an anti stretch mark cream and finally a stretch mark and scar cream. That way you can make a personal and informed choice about what texture and type of product you love and prefer to put on your skin.

So is this body butter as nourishing and natural as they claim, and does it actually help with those stretch marks? The majority of those who commented said they Loved it so much. They loved that it did not have a heavy scent, especially if they were suffering with awful morning sickness. A large majority also raved about no or very little stretch marks, stating, it is a lovely, luxurious moisturiser, without the greasy skin. There were those however who did not like the smell of the product stating it smells foul. Others argued the consistency stating the consistency is more like a regular cream, they preferred Neal’s yard Remedies mothers balm (a product we will review next!)
2) Neal’s Yard Mothers Balm (by Neal’s Yard remedies organic). 120g

I have personally used this product and love it! and I still use it now, even though it has been a long time since I was pregnant. However, I developed a few stretch marks when I gained a bit of weight when I hit 40! So I used Neal’s yard remedies organic mothers balm and my stretch marks have visably diminished and now I am losing the weight, it is helping to prevent further scarring on my hips and belly!.
Reviewers also agreed with me, that they loved the texture stating the texture was a real lovely butter consistency. One reviewer stated it was the best cream they had found for the later stages of pregnancy. Most commented that its lovely texture just sank into the skin. Another reviewer raved ‘I have used this from day one at now at 37 weeks pregnant and no stretch marks! There was some feedback that were disappointed and noticed no difference at all. I personally love to combine this product with our next product:
3) Weleda stretch mark massage oil 100ml.
Weleda tell us that their stretch mark massage oil was developed in conjunction with doctors and midwives. They advise that because pregnancy is a big job for your muscles and skin, that the organic arnica flower extract in this oil, helps ease tightness and provides a layer of comforting warmth when you indulge yourself in a massage.
They state their certified natural organic ingredients work in harmony with your skin. They boast natural ingredients of sweet almond oil and natural plant extracts including calendula and chamomile and gentle essential oils of lavender, ylang-ylang and orange. I feel relaxed already! They also claim that it helps correct the appearance of stretchmarks and helps prevent the appearance of new ones. So does it do all they say?
Most people raved that they love it and that after using from 15 weeks of pregnancy to 38 weeks of pregnancy and still no stretch marks. Many stated they had bought second bottles or used straight away for their second pregnancies and stated it was a great product, smells gorgeous and soaks in well. There were some who stated they noticed no difference at all, or did not like the smell at all.
I personally have used this oil and love it, I love the smell and love to combine it with my Neal’s yard Balm. I either use the balm in the morning and the oil in the evening, or if I’m feeling particularly opulent I go for a double whammy and oil first than after it has soaked in I use the balm! Then let them both do their thing overnight and wake to wonderfully moisturised and (stretch mark free) skin.
4) Repavar Anti stretch mark cream 250ml

Out of all the products reviewed, this is the only one with absolutely no negative comments or reviews. Most stated it was a good price and good quality. Another stating it has a lovely floral fragrance, with another stating the cream was fading her stretchmarks away slowly but surely.
I have not personally used this cream, but if it comes with 100% guarantee what have you got to lose?

As I have not used this product before, I conducted intensive research and consulted the reviews that have been written about it. Many raved that it was The best bees product ever. And that it smells really good and is super hydrating. Most stated their stretch marks were no longer visible, There was however quite a few people who were really not happy with either the cream itself or the results, stating, It wasn’t worth the money, or that the smell was horrible and that their skin did not absorb the product at all!. In fact many commented that the product was rubbish, good for nothing, not impressed, and waste of money.

Whilst there is very limited evidence, in the way of medical and clinical trials, proving that stretch marks can be prevented or diminished by using any creams, balms, butters, or oils. However, it is evident from my research that the many purchasers of these five products, have seen significant results. My research has found a clear best rating it at 9 out of 10. which is Repavar’s Anti stretch mark cream. What impressed me most was the 100% guarantee the makers gave this product. They are so confident that it WILL work that they offer you your money back if it doesn’t within 90 days. It also did not receive any negative reviews at all.
I would highly recommend the two products I have used, Weleda Stretch mark oil and Neal’s Yard remedies mothers balm, as I love them both and as stated I still use Neal’s Yard balm even though I am no longer pregnant, I love it that much!.
I guess it will be down to personal preference of texture and style of product you love. Remember to give yourself some self care, your body and mind are working hard to grow a whole new human being! so please be kind to yourself and treat yourself to a massage, Happy pampering!
